How To Visualize Vital Data About Your Facebook Friends

Although Facebook is a social networking giant, still it doesn't provide enough data visualization features to better analyze our friends' list. Generally we tend to group our friends in various lists according to our preferences. But we lack demographic information about them. Similarly, there are many vital statistics hidden in our friends' list that may prove helpful in categorizing them in appropriate categories.

Facebook spectrum logo

Facebook Spectrum is a unique service that provides very useful and interesting data visualizations about our friends using the Facebook API. Here are some excellent charts and visualization provided by this service.

Location on world map - This option lets you visualize all your friends on a Google map with pinned locations across the globe.

Timeline - Quite similar to plurk, this handy option lets you view a timeline of your friends update with thumbnail view.

Max albums - Want to know which friends have the maximum number of albums? Yes, this option lets you know exactly that.

Max photos - Maximum albums doesn't necessary means large number of photos. To get clearer picture, this option scans all your friends having the maximum number of photos.

Max active - Facebook Spectrum uses its intelligent scanning feature and lets you know the most active (updates/likes/comments/uploads) friends in your list.

Mutual share and likes - This option filters out your friends having same friends and interests that match with you.

Birthdays with calendar view - It is one of my favorite options that visualizes all your Facebook friends' birthdays in a calendar.

Gender and education distribution - You can also segregate your friends on the basis of their gender and education. This important feature present easy-to-understand charts to visualize the findings.

Facebook global search - I'm addicted to this option. It lets you search for a keyword in public updates on entire Facebook platform. The search is updated in real-time with latest updates in your hand.

A Great Twitter Visualizer With Awesome Interface

If you're a hardcore Twitter addict, you're going to love this. Regular Twitter clients provide you with default streams or a custom search on the basis of keyword, hashtag or url. Generally, these custom panes are filled by tweets matching the search term in reverse chronological order. There's no automated context-sensitive search that may filter out junk from these custom search panes.

MetroTwit Show interface

But here's an excellent solution to this problem. MetroTwit Show is advanced Twitter visualizer that intelligently selects the most relevant tweets and presents them in a nice deck format. MetroTwit Show runs on Microsoft Silverlight technology that enables it to arrange tweets in a stunning interface.

To experience its awesome topic-based tweet visualization, simply provide your keywords separated by commas, and let the magic begin. Once you've supplied your keywords, it starts with filtering out non-English tweets. Its smart algorithm weeds out spammy tweets and displays the most relevant tweets. These tweets are selected in real-time presenting the latest conversations happening for a given keyword.

Each keyword is taken one-by-one, and the entire deck is filled by the tweets in an animated form, which are continuously updated with enough delay to visualize them easily. I'm loving this new Twitter tool and highly recommend it for social media enthusiasts.

How To Manage SMS of Your Android Phone Through Desktop

If you own an Android smartphone, you can now manage its SMS right from your desktop. Even if you left your phone in office, you can still send and receive SMS from your PC with ease using your Android phone. This is just like remote controlling the SMS module of your Android device. I've tested it with Samsung Galaxy S2 and it worked like charm.

MightyText logo

Now to get this done, you need to install two software modules. One on your Android smartphone, and the other one is a plugin for your web browser. MightyText makes all this possible at no cost. The installation is very simple. Make sure you have Android 2.2+ OS and you're using Google Chrome browser.

The order of installation also matters. First install the MightyText Android app, and then install the web browser add-on to manage sms module from desktop. After the installation procedure, simply activate the application in your mobile device and connect it with your browser plugin using your phone number.

After the set up is complete, you'll receive real-time SMS and incoming call alerts. You can also receive and send all your SMS directly from the browser. These SMS are not sent directly to the recipient's mobile. In other words, your browser plugin simply syncs your SMS inbox and exchange data and control commands. The actual activity takes place in your mobile phone no matter if it is left in your office.

Large numbers of users are using this application and they've given good user ratings for both modules.
